Tunisia is an amazing country. Everybody should visit it. Giannina and Rod are your core program faculty.

I graduated from the Tourism and Travel Program at Confederation College in 1977 and after many years of work and travel experience in the industry, I am now part of the faculty in the same program.
My background includes working and eventually managing a travel agency in Northwestern Ontario for several years. During this time I received the 'Ontario North Agent of the Year' award. I relocated to Thunder Bay and was employed by Canadian Airlines International during the transition to the new airport terminal. I became part of the college faculty in 1995, mainly teaching in the outbound tourism sector, in courses that include Destination Geography, Air Travel Orientation, Marine and Land Tours and Customer Service.
"Turn your passion into a career."
I grew up in a small community in Northwestern Ontario where Quetico Provincial Park was our playground. I have a love for sea kayaking and have earned a Paddle Canada (CRCA) Flatwater Sea Kayaking Instructor certificate. I have attempted ice climbing at Orient Bay and realize I need much more practice!
The career choice that I had made was both rewarding and fascinating.
It has taken me to many exotic parts of the world, such as Europe, many of the Caribbean Islands, Mexico, Central America, Thailand, Japan, Hawaii, Venezuela and a host of other 'hotspot' destinations. My family has also enjoyed experiencing and participating in the many travel opportunities.
With a combination of travel and the outdoors, our program has become very diversified, providing a wide array of career opportunities for our students. Our experienced faculty bring with them many unique disciplines.

I have taught the Tourism & Travel - Adventure & Ecotourism Program at the college since 1990. Prior to Confederation College I worked for an Air Canada Regional Airline.
My title was Regional Manager, Customer Sales and Service. During my tenure at the airline I was responsible for staff and aircraft on-time performance for a large number of airport stations. The station furthest east was Hartford, CT and furthest west was Winnipeg. Most airports in between, at one time or another, were also my responsibility.
Prior to the airline I owned and managed a Travel Agency in Northwestern Ontario as well as a Travel Agency in northern Minnesota. I earned my CTC (Certified Travel Counsellor) designation while at the travel agency. Subsequent to the airline I worked as a consultant for a year with the Ontario Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs.
At Confederation College my areas of focus at present are adventure tourism, ecotourism, and applied geography. I particularly enjoy canoeing, both short trips and three to four week trips. I've seen a lot of Canada from the back of a canoe. As well, I'm a certified canoeing instructor with Paddle Canada (CRCA) and the Ontario Recreational Canoeing Association (ORCKA)
My family really does enjoy travelling and I especially like to SCUBA dive while experiencing locations I teach about in applied geography. Scuba diving is one of the Outdoor Pursuits courses in our program. A local dive club offers training to our students so they can see the amazing world below.
"Everyone must believe in something. I believe I'll go canoeing"
As noted, my family likes to travel. We have just returned from a short trip to the Avalon Peninsula in Newfoundland. It is amazingly beautiful. Our daughter, who does not always travel with us, has flown the equivalent of more than five times around the world. Her favourite places so far are Budapest, Hungary, Barbados, West Indies, and Tunisia, Africa. My wife and I were married on the island of Molokai, Hawaii.

I am presently teaching TA 218 Parks and Heritage Interpretation. Interpretation is best explained as an educational activity which aims to reveal meanings and relationships through the use of original objects, by firsthand experience, and by illustrative media, rather than simply to communicate factual information.
I worked to design and instruct this course for the first time two years ago, and am very excited to facilitate it again after a one year hiatus.
My teaching background is primarily at the university level. Presently I work as a sessional lecturer, teaching outdoor leadership based courses in the Department of Outdoor Recreation, Parks and Tourism at Lakehead University. My favourite courses are those that explore leadership and group dynamics through adventure interactions in natural settings. My primary objective is to ensure learning is adventurous, meaningful, and personal.
I hold a Masters degree in Ecological and Experiential Education, and am presently enrolled in the Joint PhD in Education at Lakehead University. I feel my teaching is a solid reflection of my own experiences within my post graduate university programs.
I am especially passionate about any opportunities to spend time along the north shore of Lake Superior. This area has become an important part of my family, academic and recreational life. I try to spend as much time as possible on, or near the lake, whether skiing, hiking, kayaking, fishing, or just simply exploring.
I have over 18 years of teaching experience in the Business Division of Confederation College and during that time have designed and delivered various courses on Business Planning, Entrepreneurship, Small Business Management, Marketing, Marketing Research, and Retailing. My teaching experience both regionally and internationally includes courses on Business Planning, Entrepreneurship and Small Enterprise Development and Management in Ukraine, Poland and Paraguay.
As well, I have been the coordinator of the Entrepreneurship Certificate Program at Confederation College for the past 15 years where I assisted students in business opportunity assessment and business planning.
I have over 15 years of Retail Marketing experience with two of Canada's largest retail chains and understand the challenges of business ownership, having owned and operated my own retail and consulting businesses over the last 20 years.
I'm a member of the Small Business Development Committee with the Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce as well as being a loan approval committee member with the Canadian Youth Business Foundation. I've judged for the Idea Factory Challenge and as well as being a mentor with the Summer Company self-employment program. Through my involvement with several business development organizations, I have assisted in the design and development of several young entrepreneur initiatives in the city of Thunder Bay and have been the recipient of the "Supporter of Youth Entrepreneurship" award by the Young Entrepreneurs of Thunder Bay. I am co-author of the book, "The Entrepreneur and the Business Idea", published by Productive Publications.
