One day from the completion of a 21 day "Grand Portage" trip (1965). The starting point was Thunder Bay, ON., and the completion point was Winnipeg, MB. The trip followed the old voyageur canoe route of the fur trading days. This photo was taken 30 miles north of Winnipeg, in front of Saint John's Catherdral Boy's School.

The canoes hold 10 persons and weigh approximately 300-400 pounds. Four people carry the canoe across portages while the other six carry food, tents, paddles, life jackets, and medical kits.
